Best of Portland Maine

Portland, Maine is a gem of a city located on the South coast of the largest state in New England. Famous for its Maine lobster, it is no surprise that people flock to Portland during the spring, summer and fall seasons to try some fresh seafood. Growing up here, in one of the top "foodie" cities in the Nation, I always look forward to coming home to Portland and getting my seafood fix.

With a venue for every occasion, here is my list of the top seafood restaurants in Portland:

Located on Wharf Street in the heart of Portland's Old Port, Street and Co. offers upscale dining in a relaxed and welcoming environment. As you walk into the restaurant you will notice its open kitchen and brick interior. The service is friendly and very knowledgable, taking pride in serving the freshest of seafood. With its extensive wine list and jovial atmosphere, this is the perfect spot for a romantic night out or a seafood dinner with friends and family. When I come to Street and Co, I like to start with items from the raw bar. Nothing is more satisfying than a fresh Maine oyster!

2. Yosaku
Yosaku Japanese restaurant is one of my all time favorite places to get lunch or dinner in Portland. If you love sushi as much as I do, then this is the place for you. Yosaku serves the highest quality sushi, offering Maine seafood caught that day. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, (without the pretentious vibe of some modern sushi restaurants), it is a great place for families to dine. The service at Yosaku is wonderful, you can sit outside on the deck, inside on the tradition Japanese cushions or at the sushi bar, and don't be surprised if the sushi chef offers you a free taste of the night's special! With an extensive menu and items like the 'sushi boat'; this is the perfect place for a group lunch or a dinner party.

If you are looking for oysters, look no further than Eventide Oyster Company. Located on Middle Street, just outside of the Old Port, Eventide is Portland's new hot spot for fresh oysters and creative cocktails. Sit at the bar, by the window or at a table, the portions are small but delectable. Bring your friends and enjoy items from the tasting menu as well as a selection from a wide variety of domestic and imported oysters. Be sure to try the Bloody Mary or their special drink the "Bubbly Mary", made with prosecco.

If you are in Portland during the spring, summer or fall you cannot miss the Portland Lobster Company. Located on Portland's waterfront on Commercial Street in the Old Port, the Portland Lobster Company is the ideal location for tradition Maine cuisine. This is a favorite for both tourists and locals, with the best lobster rolls Portland has to offer. Come and enjoy live music from local bands, a selection of Maine beers and fresh seafood.
